Fine Arts
| The Fine Arts program at Central Catholic High School is developed within the framework of 21st Century Knowledge and Skills developed by the West Virginia Department of Education. The main purpose is to meet each learner at his/her level and provide quality sequential guidance. Each student is encouraged to use their God-given talent to the best of their ability.
One credit (2 semesters) of fine arts is required for graduation.

ART 117STUDIO ART I (Semester) This is an introductory course designed for the beginning student artist. Techniques taught include contour drawing,shading, still-life drawing, and beginning painting. The principles and elements of design are discussed and art history is incorporated into the class as well. Supplies needed: Portfolio (2 pieces of poster board-full size, any color- duct taped together), pencils, folder for hand outs and a spiral bound sketchbook (approximate size of 8x10 or 9x12), one box of either tissues or clorox wipes. Students may bring these in by Monday, Aug 20th 2012. Most supplies are covered by the art fee; occasionally students may be asked to bring in sharpies, markers or colored pencils.

| ART127 STUDIO ART II
(Semester) The Studio Art 2 classes builds upon the basics learned in Art 1. Students are expected to use their creativity and knowledge gained from the Art 1 class. Supplies: See above |

ART137 STUDIO ART III (Semester) the Studio Art 3 Class is designed for the indivudual wishing to pursue their interest in the art field. Students strengths are encouraged and refined. Supplies: See above |

All studio art classes offer a hands-on experience with a variety of mediums and techniques. The lower level learns the basics of art; the upper levels are geared toward the more serious art student who has a sincere interest in art with the possibility of it as their college major and career choice. An art history unit is integrated into every art project. Activities include field trips to art galleries and museums, after school art club, student exhibitions. In the spring of 2012, students took a trip to NYC; another trip will be planned for the school year 2012-13

GRAPHIC ARTS Graphic Arts is a class that teaches students the basic concepts of art and design. Students learn computer programs such as Photoshop and Indesign to create a variety of print media. Topics discussed include layout and design techniques along with basic computer skills. A photography unit is also incorporated into the semester class. This class is open to juniors and seniors. Supplies needed: Folder, small notebook, digital camera (you may use your phone). |

DRAMA139 PERFORMING ARTS The Central Catholic theater affords students an opportunity to explore their creative spirits. The program includes an elective class in which students get hands-on learning in the fundamental aspect of the theater.
