All CCHS sophomores will take the PSAT in the month of October. The PSAT is not only a good indicator of strengths and weaknesses for the SAT, but it is also the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Sophomores also take the PLAN Test (Pre-ACT) in late October at CCHS. The PLAN Test is a great way to prepare for the ACT, covering the same subjects and providing an estimated ACT score.

As sophomores, students will be advised to continue working on their grades and strong work ethic to stay on track to earn the PROMISE scholarship. Even though college is three years away, students are reminded that sophomore grades have a direct impact on the awarding of the PROMISE Scholarship during their senior year. To assist students in assessing their progress toward meeting the requirements for the PROMISE scholarship, the Guidance Office will monitor students’ core GPAs throughout their sophomore year.

Since it’s never too early to begin exploring colleges and universities, the Guidance Office staff is always available to discuss career paths with students in all grade levels. Sophomores are also welcome to attend any college representative visit to CCHS.

Sophomores are reminded that if they are considering enrolling in a dual-credit course their junior year, they must take an ACT or SAT during their second semester.
